Recommendations
"Since its inception, we have regularly used Chester's human milk bank when a mother is unable to supply enough breast milk for her vulnerable premature baby. This was a far more cost effective option than developing our own resource.
This important intervention has proved highly acceptable to parents and has benefited many babies and their families. The bank maintains very high standards in all aspects of its service and they offer ready advice and education to users. We have been made to feel like partners in its development and hope we have helped it to maintain critical mass and develop the service."

“research has consistently shown that breast milk is the best nourishment for babies and that it is highly beneficial to their health in the short, medium and long term. Women are recommended to breastfeed their baby exclusively for 6 months and continue to breastfeed after 6 monthsas part of a balanced diet... if after discussion with experienced staff, mother is unable to express sufficient milk or does not wish to expressfor a baby unable to feed at the breast, donor milk can be used. Donor breast milk banks provide donor milk for babies, including pre term babies and babies with growth restriction.”
