Batches
Each donor mother's milk is processed separately. Their milk is batched for pasteurising in either the single
or double pasteuriser.
|
|
Microbiology
A sample from each batch is sent for microbiology screening before it is pasteurised and a separate sample
is sent after pasteurisation. If either sample is contaminated that batch of milk is discarded

Filling Bottles
Having been sieved, the milk is poured into either 50mls or 100mls sterilised bottles and sealed with tamper
proof tops.
|
|
Labelling
Once the bottles are sealed they are labelled with the batch number, whether they are mature
or premature (dictated by the age of the baby and the stage of the mother's lactation)and the pasteurisation date

Pasteurisation
Pasteurisation bottles are placed in the water without totally immersing the bottles and gradually heated to
62.5⁰C. Pasteurisation eliminates bacteria which does not survive at this temperature, while retaining the majority
of the milk's beneficial components.

|
Pasteurised Milk
Once the pasteurisation process is complete the milk is stored in freezers. When the samples have been cleared
the milk can be used to feed premature or ill babies.
